β‘ Quick Answers for US Travelers
How fast can I get my Indonesia eVisa?
12 business hours with Express. Priority is 48 hours, Standard is 72 hours. Most US travelers pick Priority for the balance of speed and price.
Why do US travelers go to Indonesia?
Mostly Bali. US travelers come for value (Bali resorts run a third of a comparable Maui stay), surf at Uluwatu and Canggu, the Ubud digital-nomad scene, and Komodo dive trips. Jakarta picks up business and stopover traffic.
What's included in the price?
Everything, in one USD charge. Expert review, photo validation, government submission, status tracking, and 24/7 support on email and WhatsApp. No add-ons, no foreign-transaction surprises.

β οΈ Heading to Bali? Don't forget the Bali Tourism Levy
If your trip includes Bali, the Bali provincial government charges a separate IDR 150,000 (approximately $10 USD) tourism levy on entry. This is not the same as your visa, and we do not collect it. Pay it directly at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you fly, or at the airport on arrival. Your eVOA covers Indonesian immigration; the levy covers Bali's local tourism fund.

Indonesia travel tips for US travelers
The small stuff that saves you a headache once you land.
Best months for Bali
April to October is dry season, the sweet spot. Avoid Nyepi (Bali's silent day, around late March) when the entire island shuts down for 24 hours.
Best US routes to DPS
1-stop: Singapore Airlines (SFO/LAX/JFK via SIN), Korean Air (LAX/SFO via ICN), EVA (LAX via TPE), Cathay (LAX via HKG).
Flight time
Plan 22 to 28 hours door to door. SFO to Denpasar is roughly 22 hours via Singapore. East Coast is 26+ hours.
Tips reflect typical conditions for US passport holders. Always check current advisories at travel.state.gov before travel.
Common Indonesia eVisa questions from US travelers
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers. If it is not here, see our full FAQ.
Yes. US passport holders need a visa to enter Indonesia for tourism, business, or transit. Bali is a province of Indonesia (similar to how Hawaii is a state of the United States), so the same visa applies whether you fly into Denpasar, Jakarta, or anywhere else.
All-in USD pricing: Standard $99 ( 72business hours), Priority $139 (48 hours), Express $179 (12 hours). One transparent price, no hidden fees at checkout.
Yes. Everything is billed in USD through a US-based payment processor. Your card issuer should not add a forex fee, because we never charge in a foreign currency. No surprise conversion markups on your statement.
The eVOA is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, that is your window to enter Indonesia. Once you arrive, you can stay 30 days. Single entry. Extendable once in-country for another 30 days (60 days total).
The eVOA is fully active at Ngurah Rai (Bali / DPS) and Soekarno-Hatta (Jakarta / CGK), the two airports most US travelers use. It is also accepted at additional authorized airports, seaports, and land border crossings across Indonesia.
Indonesia is rated Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution by the US State Department, the same level as France, Italy, Germany, and the UK. Tens of millions of international tourists visit Bali alone each year. Use standard precautions, register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) before you fly, and keep the US Consular Agency in Bali (Jimbaran) on hand if you need help on the ground.
Travel insurance is not legally required for the eVOA, but it is strongly recommended for American travelers. US health insurance generally does not cover medical care in Indonesia, and a medical evacuation from Bali to Singapore can run six figures out of pocket. Most US travelers buy a policy that covers medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and lost baggage. Allianz, World Nomads, and SafetyWing all serve US customers.
Yes for hotels, restaurants, and bigger shops, especially Visa and Mastercard. AMEX is accepted in fewer places. For day-to-day spending (warungs, taxis, markets) you will need IDR cash, easy to pull from any ATM with a major US debit card. Two practical tips: call your bank before you fly so they don't lock the card for "suspicious foreign activity," and pick a card with no foreign-transaction fee for the trip.
If you stay airside (inside the international transit area at the airport, never passing through immigration) you generally do not need an Indonesian visa. If you exit immigration for any reason, including overnight layovers in Jakarta or Bali, you do need a visa. The eVOA covers transit purposes, so when in doubt, get the eVOA. It is the safer call than missing your onward flight over a paperwork mistake.
No, they are separate. The eVOA is your entry visa to Indonesia. The Bali Tourism Levy is a separate IDR 150,000 (approximately $10 USD) fee charged by the province of Bali to all international visitors. We do not collect or process the levy. Pay it directly at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you fly, or at the airport on arrival.
Yes. The eVOA can be extended once in-country for an additional 30 days, bringing your total stay to 60 days. Since May 2025, extensions require both an online filing and an in-person biometric appointment at a local Indonesian immigration office. We can help with the extension when you are ready.
We recommend applying 3 to 5 days before your flight. Processing takes 12 to 72 business hours depending on the tier you choose. If your departure is tight, pick Express (12 business hours) and apply as soon as you have your travel dates locked.
Denials are rare (around 2%) thanks to our pre-submission expert review. If your application is declined by Indonesian immigration, our team will walk you through the reason and advise on whether a re-application makes sense. See our refund policy for full details.
