⚡ Quick Answers for French Travellers

How fast can I get my Bali visa from France?

12 business hours with Express. Priority is 48 hours, Standard is 72 hours. Most French travellers pick Priority during the grandes vacances rush, when last-minute Bali bookings spike alongside flight prices.

Why do French travellers go to Indonesia?

Bali is to Indonesia what Corsica is to France: a celebrated island within a much larger republic. French travellers come for Ubud yoga retreats, surfing at Uluwatu and Canggu, the temples of Yogyakarta, and diving in Komodo and Raja Ampat.

Is Carte Bancaire (CB) accepted at checkout?

Yes. Most French CB cards are co-branded with Visa or Mastercard and process without issue in USD. AMEX, Apple Pay, and Google Pay also work for French-issued cards. Pure CB-only cards (rare) are the one exception.

Two-week honeymoon to Ubud and Nusa Lembongan, both eVOAs back in 36 hours. The team flagged that my husband's passport had under 6 months validity before we paid, which spared us a Préfecture renewal in August. Honest service, that.

Yoga retreat in Ubud during la Toussaint, three of us travelling together. AMEX charged cleanly in USD on a single transaction, all three visas issued in 28 hours. Better than my last Schengen file, which is saying something.

Surf trip to Canggu booked last minute, Express tier delivered the visa in 9 hours. WhatsApp replies were quick and in clear English, no jargon. The refund policy was explained without me even asking, which I appreciated.

Indonesia travel tips for French travellers

What actually matters when you're flying from Paris, Lyon, or Marseille to Indonesia.

Best months for Bali

Avril à octobre is the dry season and the sweet spot for Ubud, Canggu, and Uluwatu. July and August overlap with the grandes vacances and prices climb sharply. Avoid Nyepi (Bali's day of silence in late March) when the entire island, DPS included, shuts for 24 hours.

Best France routes to DPS

No direct flight from France to Bali. Best one-stops: Singapore Airlines via Singapour, Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates via Dubaï, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul. From CDG 16 to 19 hours total, similar from Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Marseille Provence.

Time difference

Bali is +7 hours from Paris in summer (heure d'été), +8 hours in winter (heure d'hiver). Your sleep arrives in Bali around lunch, plan an easy first day, the reverse jet lag on return is the kinder direction.

Tips reflect typical conditions for French passport holders. Always check current advice on France Diplomatie before you fly.

Common Indonesia eVisa questions from French travellers

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers. If it is not here, see our full FAQ.

Yes. French passport holders need a visa for tourism, business, family visits, or transit through immigration. Bali is a province of Indonesia (in the way Corsica is a region of France), so the same eVOA applies whether you land at Denpasar (DPS), Jakarta (CGK), Yogyakarta (YIA), or Lombok (LOP).

All-in USD pricing: Standard $99 (72 business hours), Priority $139 (48 hours), Express $179 (12 hours). One transparent fee, no add-ons, no surcharge at checkout.

Yes. Everything is billed in USD through a US-based payment processor. Most French CB cards are co-branded with Visa or Mastercard and process without issue. AMEX, Apple Pay, and Google Pay also work for French-issued cards. Your bank converts at its standard rate, no surprise markups from us.

The eVOA is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, which is your window to enter Indonesia. Once you arrive, you can stay 30 days. Single entry. Extendable once in-country for another 30 days, taking total stay to 60 days.

The eVOA is fully active at Ngurah Rai (Bali / DPS) and Soekarno-Hatta (Jakarta / CGK), the two airports nearly all French itineraries use. It is also accepted at Yogyakarta (YIA), Surabaya (SUB), Lombok (LOP), Manado, Medan, Batam, Bintan, and other authorised entry points across Indonesia.

The France Diplomatie advisory (diplomatie.gouv.fr) lists most tourist zones, including Bali, Lombok, Yogyakarta, and Java, at vigilance normale. A handful of remote areas in Papua are flagged separately. Use standard precautions, register on Ariane before you fly, and keep the French Embassy in Jakarta on hand if you ever need it.

Travel insurance is not legally required for the eVOA, but the Assurance Maladie does not cover medical care outside the EU. A medical evacuation from Bali can run into tens of thousands of dollars. Premium carte bancaire cover (Visa Premier, Mastercard Gold) is limited and capped, most French travellers add a dedicated assurance voyage for the trip.

Yes for hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, especially Visa and Mastercard. AMEX is accepted in fewer venues. For day-to-day spending (warungs, taxis Bluebird, markets) you will need IDR cash, easy to withdraw with any major French debit card at an ATM. Two practical tips: tell your bank you are travelling so they don't block the card for "opération suspecte à l'étranger", and pick a card without frais de change for the trip.

If you stay airside in the international transit area without passing immigration, you do not need an Indonesian visa. If you exit immigration in Indonesia for any reason, including overnight layovers in Jakarta or Bali, you do. The eVOA covers transit purposes too, so when in doubt, get the eVOA. Cheaper than missing your onward flight over a paperwork question.

No, they are separate. The eVOA is your entry visa to Indonesia. The Bali Tourism Levy is a separate IDR 150,000 (approximately $10 USD) fee charged by the province of Bali to all international visitors. We do not collect or process the levy. Pay it directly at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you fly, or at the DPS arrival kiosk.

Yes. The eVOA can be extended once in-country for another 30 days, taking total stay to 60 days. Extensions require an online filing plus an in-person biometric appointment at a local Indonesian immigration office. We can help organise the extension when you are ready, useful if your villa booking in Ubud creeps past the 30-day window.

We recommend applying 3 to 5 days before your flight. Processing takes 12 to 72 business hours depending on the tier you choose. Around the grandes vacances (juillet to août), Toussaint, and the fêtes de fin d'année, applying a week ahead is sensible because everyone else is also flying that week.

Denials are rare (around 2%) thanks to our pre-submission expert review. If Indonesian immigration declines your file, our team walks you through the reason in writing and advises on whether a re-application makes sense. See our refund policy for full details.
