⚡ Quick Answers for Hong Kong Travellers
How fast can I get my Bali visa from Hong Kong?
12 business hours with Express. Priority is 48 hours, Standard is 72 hours. Most HK travellers pick Express around long weekends (Easter, CNY, Mid-Autumn) when last-minute Cathay HKG-DPS seats vanish in days.
Why do HK people go to Bali so often?
5-hour Cathay direct, zero time difference. Friday-night flight, beach by Saturday morning, no jet lag in either direction.
Will my HSBC, Hang Seng, or BoCHK card work?
Yes. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, UnionPay, JCB, Apple Pay, and Google Pay all process cleanly in USD. AlipayHK and FPS are HKD-only and not supported.

⚠️ Heading to Bali? Don't forget the Bali Tourism Levy
If your itinerary includes Bali, the Bali provincial government charges a separate IDR 150,000 (approximately $10 USD) tourism levy on entry. This is not the same as your Indonesia visa, and we don't collect it. Pay it directly on lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you fly, or at the kiosk on arrival at Denpasar. Your eVOA covers Indonesian immigration; the levy funds the local Balinese tourism programme.

What Hong Kong travellers are saying
Real feedback from HKSAR passport holders. 4.1/5 verified rating across 10,000+ reviews.
“CNY long weekend trip to Seminyak with seven of us, all eVOAs back in 18 hours on Express. The team flagged that two of our HKSAR passports had under 6 months validity before we paid, which spared a frantic Immigration Tower run. Genuinely helpful.”

“Surf trip to Uluwatu, three of us booking on Friday for a Saturday Cathay flight. Express tier issued all three visas in 7 hours. UnionPay charged once cleanly in USD on the corporate card, and the WhatsApp answers came back in clear English with no fluff.”
Cheryl C.
Sai Ying Pun, HK Island
“Yoga retreat in Ubud during Easter, Priority tier delivered the visa in 30 hours. AMEX charged cleanly in USD, single transaction, no surprise fee on the credit card statement. Cheaper than what my friend paid through a Mongkok travel agent.”

Indonesia travel tips for Hong Kong travellers
What actually matters when you fly Cathay or HK Airlines from HKG to Bali.
Best months for Bali
April through October is the dry season, ideal for Ubud, Canggu, and Uluwatu. CNY, Easter, Mid-Autumn long weekends are the busiest HK windows; book Cathay early. Avoid Nyepi (Bali's silent day in late March), the entire island closes for 24 hours, DPS included.
Best HKG routes to DPS
Cathay Pacific direct: HKG-DPS roughly 5 hours 10 minutes, 14 weekly flights. Hong Kong Airlines also direct. Garuda routes via Jakarta (CGK) for the price-conscious. Friday night out, Tuesday morning back is the classic HK long-weekend pattern.
Time difference
Zero time difference. Bali (WITA) and Hong Kong (HKT) both run on UTC+8. No jet lag in either direction, no body-clock reset, no waking up at 4am wondering where you are. One of the few tropical destinations that lets HK travellers hit the ground running.
Tips reflect typical conditions for HKSAR passport holders. Always check current advice on HK Outbound Travel Alert before you fly.
Common Indonesia eVisa questions from HK travellers
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers. If it is not here, see our full FAQ.
Yes. HKSAR passport holders need a visa for tourism, business, or transit through immigration. Bali is a province of Indonesia (in the way Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of China), so the same eVOA applies whether you land at Denpasar (DPS), Jakarta (CGK), or Lombok (LOP). BNO passport holders should use the UK page instead.
All-in USD pricing: Standard $99 (72 business hours), Priority $139 (48 hours), Express $179 (12 hours). One transparent fee, no add-ons, no FX surprise on the statement.
Yes. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, UnionPay, JCB, Apple Pay, and Google Pay all process cleanly in USD. HSBC, Hang Seng, BoCHK, Citi, Standard Chartered, and DBS cards all work. AlipayHK and FPS are HKD-domestic and not supported.
The eVOA is valid for 90 days from the date of issue, which is your window to enter Indonesia. Once you arrive, you can stay 30 days. Single entry. Extendable once in-country for another 30 days, taking total stay to 60 days.
The eVOA is fully active at Ngurah Rai (Bali / DPS) and Soekarno-Hatta (Jakarta / CGK), the two airports nearly all HK itineraries route through. It is also accepted at Yogyakarta (YIA), Surabaya (SUB), Lombok (LOP), Manado, Medan, Batam, Bintan, and other authorised entry points across Indonesia.
Most tourist zones, including Bali, Lombok, Yogyakarta, and Java, currently sit outside the HK Outbound Travel Alert system. Remote zones in Papua and parts of Sulawesi may carry separate notices. Check sb.gov.hk before flying.
Travel insurance is not required, but Cathay and most HK credit-card cover is limited and capped. A medical evacuation from Bali can run into the tens of thousands of dollars, so most HK travellers add a Bowtie, AXA, or HSBC travel cover.
No, all three are HKD-domestic. For warungs, Bluebird taxis, and markets you'll need IDR cash from any Bali ATM. Apple Pay and Google Pay work at most cafes and larger shops.
If you stay airside in the international transit area without passing immigration, you do not need an Indonesian visa. If you exit immigration in Indonesia for any reason, including overnight layovers in Jakarta or Bali, you do. The eVOA covers transit purposes too, so when in doubt, get the eVOA.
No, they are separate. The eVOA is your entry visa to Indonesia. The Bali Tourism Levy is a separate IDR 150,000 (approximately $10 USD) fee charged by the province of Bali to all international visitors. We do not collect or process the levy. Pay it directly at lovebali.baliprov.go.id before you fly, or at the DPS arrival kiosk.
Yes. The eVOA can be extended once in-country for another 30 days, taking total stay to 60 days. Extensions require an online filing plus an in-person biometric appointment at a local Indonesian immigration office. Useful for HK travellers who turn a long weekend into a workation in Canggu.
Apply 3 to 5 days before your flight. Processing takes 12 to 72 business hours depending on tier. Around CNY, Easter, Mid-Autumn, and Christmas long weekends, applying a week ahead is sensible because last-minute volume spikes alongside Cathay seat prices.
Denials are rare (around 2%) thanks to our pre-submission expert review. If Indonesian immigration declines your file, our team walks you through the reason in writing and advises whether a re-application makes sense. See our refund policy for the details.
